Observations of daily ritual, mundane activities, and the subtleties of body language led to this collection of tiny sculpture featuring objects behaving badly or honestly.
I am interested in the funny life the objects around us lead, we gather objects that speak to our interests and surround ourselves with comforts. This view of objects has led to questions about the true nature of the partly symbiotic relationship between flowers and vases.
The first pieces in this series, Longing and That Moment, capture the initial flash of recognized desire. This fragile moment is initiated as the flowers bend towards the vase; news travels through the field of flowers and creates a rhythm of recognition. For now the flowers and vase will continue this ritual of motion to show their desire, each bending towards the other in the futile effort of connecting regardless of what such a union would mean.
2012 - present
Furniture, buildings, rooms; in all the spaces occupied by the body there exists a reflection. While questions and memories linger in the negative spaces of our furniture and rooms, the objects that remain act out everyday human conversation and confrontation. In my view everything has something to say.
Working with an oxy acetylene torch slows my thoughts while speeding process. The fine welding rod is fluidly bent to shape, while working in 3D allows for the exploration of subtleties in placement and body language. Two lamps may appear to softly speak to one another, but once turned around seem to be trying to get away from each other.
